[Double NAT] Allow modem devices to work with pfsense subnet
-
How do I allow my TV connected to my modem (192.168.178.x) to work properly with devices on my pfsense subnet (192.168.1.x)?
I can ping the TV (192.168.178.122) from my PC (192.168.1.11). Works fine. But miracast and Youtube casting doesn't work while it does work when I connect my TV to WiFi in Pfsense subnet.I created a rule on WAN to allow traffic from my TV, rule is hit and shows some UDP miracast stuff that it sends to 192.168.178.255:15600 but still doesn't work.
Played with NAT and NAT 1:1 settings and googled for a couple of hours but I can't figure out what to do.
Block private & bogon is disabled. -
Typcially protocols used for "casting" do not work across IP subnets without proxies being installed (such as avahi for mDNS).
So your problem is having devices not on the same L2 network. If possible, get rid of the double-NAT setup with your modem.
If you can't eliminate the double-NAT, then you are going to have to provide a means to get miracast traffic routing between the two subnets; and that will take some type of proxy.
