Change IP server OpenVPN
-
Hello,
By default, "The first usable address in the IPv4 Tunnel Network will be assigned to the server virtual interface".
But we would like to find a way to change this address.
For example, we have configured an OpenVPN Server with the following IPv4 Tunnel Network: 10.8.0.0/16
So the IP assigned to the OpenVPN interface is 10.8.0.1. We would like to assign the following IP : 10.8.254.254.
We need this correction because this OpenVPN instance is the import of an already existing configuration configured as well.
VPN clients are therefore all configured this way. And it would be easier for us to find this tip.
Thank you. -
AFAIK you can't assign the server itself any IP address manually. It always uses the first one of the supplied tunnel network. And as clients do DHCP on connection, there should be no problem with them.
VPN clients are therefore all configured this way. And it would be easier for us to find this tip.
VPN clients are configured - how? What's configured at a client that makes it want to use the last IP or 10.8.254.254 specifically as the OVPN server address? I know of no config that does that by default. Not even commercial ones.
Can you provide a config snippet from a client? Or the old server configuration?

Thanks for your help.
There was the next instruction in the openvpn server conf :
ifconfig 10.8.254.254 10.8.254.253But I guess it has not an impact on the clients, right ?
They were generated on a openvpn linux server (not on pfsense).

A server configured that way (non default) will be hard to "import" into pfSense.
