Snort on Alix?

I currently have pfSense running on an Alix router, and I need to add IDS functionality.

Is Snort able to run on Alix with CF card, or do I need something better?

Can Snort run off of a flash drive, or does it need a hard drive?

Snort and Suricata are way too memory hungry to run on a system with only 256 MB RAM and no swap.
