Unable to Access GUI & Console
-
I am pretty new to pfsense, I've a new Netgate SG-1100.
Power went out yesterday and when it came back up I was not able to login to the GUI or use the serial console. The GUI IP changed from the default to what looks like IPV6. Can you please help.

@sano-0 That's an APIPA IP4 address which means your DHCP server is not working. Give yourself a static IP address on the same LAN you were on before and then try to access pfSense WebGUI.
-
@kom Thank you for the response. I tried the suggestion however I was not able to access the webGUI. (Running Version 21.02.2-RELEASE (arm64)). No luck connecting to the console either.

@sano-0 Your network used to be 192.168.1.0/24 and pfSense LAN used to be 192.168.1.1? Can you ping 192.168.1.1? If so, have you tried to access 192.168.1.1 via http and https?
-
@kom Yes pfSense LAN used to be 192.168.1.1
I'm not able to ping 192.168.1.1 or connect to access 192.168.1.1 -
@sano-0 I think it might be time for you to contact Netgate Support. They can help you restore the device.

I'm not able to ping 192.168.1.1 or connect to access 192.168.1.1Your box is not fully booting up, so you will not be able to connect to it over the network. Instead, you must use the serial console connection. Here is the official documentation on how that works: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/sg-1100/connect-to-console.html.
Your box is not booting because the power failure likely led to disk corruption. The SG-1100 is a PC, and it does not like losing power without going through an orderly shutdown sequence first. Once you have console access, you will likely need to run a series of repair operations on the internal disk. Here is the documentation for doing that: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/troubleshooting/filesystem-check.html#manual-filesystem-check.
Once you get your system back in running order, immediately order and install a small UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) for it. Connect the UPS to the power and USB ports, then install either the
apcupsd
ornut
package to communicate with the UPS. That way, if power dies in the future, your firewall will continue to run on the battery in the UPS. And when the battery nears exhaustion, the UPS will signal theapcupsd
ornut
package, and the package will start an orderly shutdown of your firewall. This will prevent future disk corruption. -

@bmeeks He says he can't connect to the serial console.
@Sano 0 Have you ever been able to use the serial console before but it doesn't work now, or have you never connected to it and are having problems trying to now?
All of his screenshots appear to be from a Windows machine showing network settings. I see no evidence of him trying the COM1, COM2, or COM3 serial ports. The documentation I linked will walk through installation of the USB serial cable driver on Windows. After that, he should be able to connect or at least see some information on the screen. Depending on what caused the power outage, it could be the firewall was electrically "destroyed" by a surge. If that's the case, then it is likely toast.

I am with @KOM did the serial console ever work?
You should get something out of the console.. What are the lights on the box showing?
I would suggest contact support - they are helpful, even if you don't have a support contract for how to restore a device that has failed for some reason. Support contracts are really meant for configuration help, but they should help you restore functionality of the device, etc.
