Snort will not start - PFSense 21.05 / FreeBSD 12.2
-
Netgate 3100 device w/ PFSense - just purchased a few days ago. Installed Snort with pay version oinkcode. Rules update worked fine. Configured Snort for WAN port. Selected the start button for Snort and the cog wheel icon just shows spinning indicating Snort is trying to start. The cog wheel icon never changes to started status. Anyone with any idea(s) why Snort will not start would be great. Thanks in advance.

Maybe you have to do this:
Affected users can install the System Patches package and then create an entry for the patch URL https://redmine.pfsense.org/attachments/download/3707/patch-disable-pcrejit-arm.diff to apply the fix.

@fireodo is correct. You either need to install the System Patches package, and then the PHP patch he referenced.
The problem is that PHP itself is crashing when some Perl regex functions are called, and that crash subsequently kills Snort.

@fireodo Thanks for the information. I have worked around with this issue for a few days now. No resolve. This is the first Netgate device I have deployed and it is already requiring way too much time to get basic services working. Each service seems to have a problem(s) according to the research on this forum site. I will go back to using Sonicwall and Ubiquiti products. Just thought I would give Netgate / PFSense a try. Thanks again.

You're welcome. Sorry for not getting it working!
