Hi,

I'm newbe to this and I would like to build access point from a PC that supports 802.11 wave 2 technology that is powerful without having to go through the hussel of buy controller/catalyst.

Can that be done? How? What hardware/software should be bought/installed?

No, you can't. You'll have to buy a real AP.
