Simply put, the alert tab shows nothing in it, but going to the view logs section of the interface shows the log entries.

      2.3-RELEASE (amd64)
built on Mon Apr 11 18:10:34 CDT 2016
      FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE

      snort security 3.2.9.1_13

(Note, this was an upgrade to 2.3 from what ever the old version was)

I also tried changing/resetting the settings for the alert tab, but it does nothing.

Clicked reset under filter, Still nothing.

What file specifically are you looking at on the LOGS tab?  Only the file named alert will be used by the ALERTS tab.  If you are looking at older history alert logs (those will have a timestamp in their name), then that data will not be displayed on the ALERTS tab.  It may simply be your box rotated the alert log when it reached the rotate size limit and no new alerts have come in since then.

The above is just a guess, though.  Reply back with the exact log file name you are looking at where you see alerts.
