Pfsense as a Wireless Bridge/Extender and OpenVPN gateway?
-
Hi there, I am new to pfsense (I have only tried it in virtualbox) but I have grown to like it. I have a wireless network in my home but the signal is not that great. So here's the thing, I am trying to figure out whether it's possible to do the following on a pfsense machine:
-
Make a wireless bridge to my already existing wifi at home wirelessly (or if not possible act as a repeater) and
-
Create a new separate network which will use OpenVPN to encrypt all the data through it
-
Distribute this encrypted network wirelessly by creating an access point on the same pfsense machine
My VPN is PIA so I will try to look at their forums too. I am asking because in simpler OS'es like Merlin-WRT, the router can't act as a bridge/extender and VPN gateway at the same time. Many thanks

using pfSense as a replacement for any kind of AP is not recommended. (wireless support on freebsd is running years behind)

Hmm, what if I use it as wireless receiver, make it a VPN gateway and then connect a tiny TL-WR702N as an access point?

Why do you want to transmit something wirelessly, receive it and re-broadcast it again?
Pull a wire and install a decent Access Point where you need it.
If pulling a wire is not an option you might get away with a PLC system (power line communications) to feed your AP.Receiving an already weak signal and re-airing it is never a good idea.

Or MoCA.

Or MoCA.
I know mocca, but MoCA? "Mist over Canada" or "MoCA Montreal - Cognitive Assessment"? Probably not.
Wait, got it: Multimedia over Coax Alliance - Wikipedia ;)
