I am running ver 2.3.2  and I just installed the Squid Proxy server and it keeps turning its self off shortly after I start it can anyone tell me did I miss something again. I tried to follow a guy on youtube that set his up and I did it just like he did but mine keeps turning off.  In the service status it keeps saying that it is starting and stopping is it suppose to do that or stay running.

Sigh. There's the realtime tab with logs; there are also pfSense logs (Status - System Logs). Both of those will provide much more useful info than YT.  ::)

          Thanks for responding.

Sorry forgot to say the real time log doesn’t say anything about what’s going on just that the anti virus deal is updating and that’s about it nothing else is showing in there.

Your Squid is disabled. No wonder it won't start. Kindly tick the Enable checkbox and save.

I did have it checked this was just after i turned it off after it keep turning its self off. So I came here to see if someone could tell me why it keeps shutting down on me. I am still new to this stuff but i want to learn I* just don't get the firewall rules and nat and all the different stuff that goes with it.

is there a place here i should be looking i am not sure how to do searches for things here yet i have a hard time trying to get things to come up i guess i am not asking the right questions in the search box or something.

so if there is a place to go here or on a sight that deals with things that deal with setting up pfsense let me know and i will go see if i can read up on it and maybe answer my own questions LOL.

But thank you for the help so far i will keep checking back for any answers i can get from you folks here thanks again. Ron Frazier AKA Wildmanron

Uncheck the other box ("Keep Settings/Data"), Save, remove Squid, reinstall and reconfigure from scratch. No explanation for your self-disabling Squid, sorry.

I wonder if squid can't write to its own logs due to incorrect user permissions?  Was this an upgrade from pfSense 2.2.x?  There was a similar issue awhile back.  This might be easily fixed but dok's idea is better.  Blow it all away and then reinstall it.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you on the upgrade yes it was I forget what ver I started with it upgraded like two or three times I cant remember right now but yes it was up grade.

I have taking the system back to the beginning of when I first got it up and running and am just doing with out the squid for now I am looking for new system to build or buy to redo pfsense I will be using the new ver I downloaded and burned to disk.

I hope that fixes the problem.

I  will keep you all up to date with my progress on getting it to work with new system. Thanks for the help so far though I would still be wondering around in the dark if it wasn’t for you folks so thank you so very much.
