No lan internet connectivity
-
Hello everyone. I am new to pfsense, but not networking or firewalls, and I'm having a really odd issue with my clients connecting from the LAN side. Wan is working fine and can install packages, ping external, etc. internally I can ping LAN interface and even ping external sites. However, I cannot browse to anything. Initially I thought it was a Windows issue but discovered none of my mobile devices have connectivity either. It's a standard setup with wan connected to cable modem and LAN connected to LAN ports on router. LAN is 192.168.1.0/24 with no gateway set. This is a fresh 64-bit install with no rules or anything set yet. I have read through the wiki troubleshooting docs but don't see anything there I am missing. Anyone know what I might be overlooking here? I'm hoping it's something easy I missed because I am super tired from being up all night with this. TIA

What router? pfSense is your router. Don't connect its LAN to anything "upstream".

Wan to cable modem, LAN to lan ports on a dlink router configured as an AP. I tried a linksys router with the same results.

That D-Dlink/Linksys router should not route anything. This issue really has nothing to do with pfSense.
-
Just to be clear, both are configured for AP mode only. They aren't routing anything. And for brevity's sake, I removed the linksys/dlink "router" and just used a standard switch as well as a crossover cable from my laptop to the LAN interface. Same symptoms. The clients are getting dhcp addresses just fine from the pfsense box.

DNS, what service do you use Resolver xor Forwarder ?
Did you change its config ?
Result [Diagnostics > DSN Lookup] 'google.com' ?
How does [System > General] look like ? -

How does [System > General] look like ?Default config after install is setup for resolver. I haven't changed any config, other than DHCP pool size. The diagnostics are fine with dns lookup. I have internet connectivity from pfsense box. From any of my Windows machines I can open a command line and ping outside by name and ip, as well as nslookup. Apps like IE, firefox, and Outlook won't resolve though. That originally led me to believe it was a Windows networking issue, but then I got pretty much the same results from Apple and Android devices as well. All clients happily get a DHCP address from pfsense, so I know everything is working internally up to the lan interface.
My DNS server entries are empty under system->general setup. My understanding is that they should be empty if you're getting that info from your ISP.

Looks like this was a hardware issue. I replaced one of the NIC's with a new one and it started working right away. I'm guessing FreeBSD didn't like the chipset as it it works fine in every OS I've used it in (before and after). It worked fine on this box as well, it just would not pass browser traffic through it. Nothing else has changed about the config, so that had to be the problem. Thanks for the input!
