2.4 Release Estimate / Educated Guess?
-
FreeBSD 11.1 will be out soon. I could see them waiting until at least after that.

If the redmine roadmap is any indicator then I wouldn't hold my breath. It has moved something like 5% in the past couple months. Sitting at around 75% now I think? At that rate we're looking at
sometime around Spring 2018. Which as far as I'm concerned is no problem at all. 2.4.0 BETA has worked great for me for awhile now.As mentioned before they could also just push back a bunch of items to 2.4.1 and release very soon, so who knows!
But if you want the 2.4 features now for a home use system then just read through the known issues and grab the BETA if it works for you!

Aside from a few key issues that is the most likely path we'll take. Only a few sizable hurdles left.

This would allow generation 2 VMs on windows hyper-v 2012R2, which would be a nice cherry on top of 2.4.

Sadly, FreeBSD decided to backport the new, largely untested by the public, IPsec stack into 11.1 which means it's now likely too much of a change to make it into 2.4.

Well, that's disappointing news.

i update to latest snapshot everyday and the only major broken thing for me is 7116 coz due to that traffic shaper doesnt work and its been quiet some time any1 has worked on it, i believe 2.4 wont get released till its fixed as 2.4 release would be incomplete without that
Same here… that's the one bug that is causing me the most headaches at home... I'm actually considering going back to 2.3 just so I can work reliably through the summer with all the kids youtube and netflix and whatnot fighting for the bandwidth when I just need a jitter free 96k for VoIP!
But for my corporate deployment, without the shaping working I couldn't release 2.4 to my 2.3 corporate firewalls (VoIP, Skype, Citrix, etc needing high priority in the offices).

I got a 2.4 build from a few months ago running on a Gen 2 VM. Been upgrading it ever since with only one issue: the proprietary Hyper-V keyboard driver isn't there so the console can't be used. Might be a dealbreaker for some, but it has worked fine for me for months.

I'm hopeful the captive portal mac address problem is addressed soon. The bug has been listed for quite some time now and really is a problem for me.

I heard this is possible, but I'd prefer to have a working keyboard so I'll stick with generation 1 until generation 2 is properly supported.
