Configuring ovpn interface on vlan
-
Hi folks
I am trying to get pfsense working on an old thinkpad notebook with only one nic. i bought an netgear GS105E sitch and thanks to this thread, https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=28379.0, I managed to set up a VLAN for LAN and WAN. The problem now is I realized that I need a third interface for ovpn but have not got a clue how I need to configure it on the netgear switch. Could somebody please tell me how to achieve this? Thanks in advance for all sensible answers. -

The OpenVPN connection is tunneled through your existing ports, and any OpenVPN interfaces in pfSense exist only there.

The TUN or TAP interface (depending on seup) that OpenVPN uses is a virtual interface that only exists in software, it is not bound to physical hardware like the standard network interfaces are.

Hi
Thanks for your answers even if I don’t understand them, at least I know now that it is possible to work lol. In my normal setup I need to assign an interface to ovpn. I need only a client setup to access my ovpn Provider. So how do I setup it if I only have LAN and WAN Interfaces?
Best regards -

Best regardsGo to Interfaces > Assign and add a new Interface choosing your OpenVPN client setup (there will be a choice there assuming you've already set up the client). If you need more help, try the OpenVPN section at https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?board=39.0
