I have a remote user who connects to us via VPN.  I sent him the requisite installer for Windows and he's claiming that he's not getting any icons on his desktop, taskbar, or start menu.  Has anyone had this happen before?

So this is an existing user that has been using OpenVPN in the past? And you sent him a new installer file to reinstall after he started having problems?

If OpenVPN is connecting normally without errors, it's likely an issue with the server / computer that he's trying to access.

We have had a similar issue occur a couple times - when logging onto our Windows Server sometimes a user will find the desktop blank, with no taskbar, etc. but their start menu has all of the icons. When we opened Documents and went to the Desktop folder, everything was there as well. Simply logging this user off our server (not disconnecting) and logging back in resolved the issue. The rest of the users didn't experience this problem, just one user out of about 10 users. So it's possible…

Just re-reading your question, are you meaning there is no OpenVPN icon on the desktop/start menu?

When installing OpenVPN, there is the option to create a shortcut on the desktop… maybe it got unchecked? He should still should be able to search for it & right-click to pin to the start menu.

When the OpenVPN GUI is launched, the icon will be hidden in the taskbar notification area... I had to click on the arrow to expand to see it. I changed the setting to always show that icon when OpenVPN was launched, makes it quicker for me to connect.

Sorry for the delay in responding.  The remote user malfunctioned and didn't do it right.  Uninstall of client and reinstall solved the problem.
