      Hi,
      I use 2.3.4-RELEASE (i386) FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-p19 on a Soekris net6501-70 fine.

Does (or could please) the 2.4 support the device mptable? http://wiki.soekris.info/Net6501_freebsd
Only then the 64bit version is usable for me…

Given that it's potentially risky, and that Soekris USA has shut down operations (and in EU they stopped making network hardware), and that a ton of the net6501 units are dead/dying, we will not be adding a new kernel option to help just one failed device model.

You are better off replacing that box with one that won't die an untimely death.

Peruse the archives of the soekris-tech mailing list and you'll find that you're lucky that your device still works at all.

Hi and thank you for your assessment. This are the facts for the next hardware selection.
My actual hardware pool is not end-of-sale, needs no hardware support and I would take the kernel risk.

You might be willing to take that risk, but this would affect everyone, not just you. If you want to try making your own custom builds (with your own name/logo/etc) with that kernel option, go for it. But I wouldn't trust that hardware at all. Period. Even if you don't think it needs hardware support, it's a ticking time bomb. Replace it immediately.

                Of course you are right.
But I unfortunately just recently invested  :'( my space requirements required a 1U dual net6501-70 solution (Kerberos).
I had to find something adequate…
