OpenVPN & ExpressVPN speeds

  • Hello everyone,

I hope everyone is having an excellent Sunday! I have some questions, so I purchased a SG2220 to route several of my devices through a VPN. I set it up about two weeks ago and was getting speeds for a week of about 60/30 (my max is 300/30) but I figured with the CPU in the SG-2220 60 is about what it could handle on a single thread.

I have now run into a issue in the last couple of days. I have checked speeds and it seems I am capped at 9.2-9.3 down and 9.2/9.3 up which is very odd, and even if I change servers on Express VPNs the speeds stays the same.

I have tried several speeds sites and all are about the same. I am started to suspect possible ISP throttle of the VPN connection since Express VPN uses the same port for each server.

Anyone with some insight I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thank you for your time.

  • Test with same hosts and ports on your own PC (not from pfsense), Test from both PC and pfsense with different hosts/ports.

Did this and was the same but it did give me an idea and found what was the issue. A power surge took one of my ports out on my switch and was stuck in 10MB half duplex which was causing the whole network to go to it. Repalced the switch and good to go.

    Thank you!
