We now have a procedure published on the wiki to upgrade in-place from a 64-bit 2.3 NanoBSD installation to 2.4.

The process cannot be fully automated in a reliable way, but we have both a fully manual and a script-assisted method on the wiki:

      https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Upgrading_64-bit_NanoBSD_2.3_to_2.4

We have tested this a number of times on different setups with VMs and real hardware and it works well.

As a bonus, you will also end up with an installation which uses the full size of your media. If you had a 4GB NanoBSD on an 8GB disk, on 2.4 it will be a single slice using all 8GB at the end of the process.

The procedure does not create any swap space, however. If that is a requirement, reinstall to the disk with the 2.4 installer.
