I set up my pfsense with openVPN and using IPVanish and it works fine.  I then used Firewall Alias to put all of my devices that I want to be static ip address and routed straight to the WAN and not openVPN and it works fine, I thought.  When I do an ipchicken on the devices that are routed straight to the WAN, I get my ISPs IP Address.  If I use a device for openVPN, I get the IPVanish IP Address.  The issue is the devices going routed to the WAN is still being blocked by Bank of America, yet it is using the ISPs IP Address.  Now if I disable OpenVPN and use that same device that is routed to the WAN bank of america works fine.

What I can not figure out is if the device is being routed to the WAN and gets the IP from the ISP, why is bank of america blocking the device.  For example the ISP gives me 174.X.X.X with OpenVPN running or not running.  Yet if openVPN is running bank of america will not work, but if I disable OpenVPN that same address of 174.X.X.X, from my ISP will get me to bank of america.

Please help am I missing something or is this just the way it is for now.

Okay I am trying to get to the www.bankofamerica.com url

Screenshot of the error I am getting is attached

I am letting pfsense do all the the DNS and it is using my ISPs DNS.

As far as is the DNS is going out via VPN I don't know.  I am totally new to pfsense and not sure how I would change that or how to find out.  But it sounds like that maybe the case.  If you can tell how to find out and if DNS is going through VPN it would help alot.

That has ZERO to do with pfsense and everything to do with dns..

Trying to setup a vpn most likely is blocking you from accessing your isp dns - since they normally only allow access from their own IP ranges..

What is your client using for dns?  Pfsense - did you change pfsense from using the resolver?

Okay I got it working… the devices were using the gateway address as the DNS.  I changed it to use the DNS Ip Address all is well.  That worked but opened up another can or worms.  Thanks for all of the help
