Until now I was unable to find a fix…

Looks like it is not possible to disable:
Use IP Reputation Lists on this interface.

Temporary solution to have suricata 4.0.0 working it is to disable: Install Snort VRT rules.  ???

Suricata does not understand and process all of the Snort VRT rules keywords and rule options.  Generally it just prints an error about the offending rules in the log and continues on.  Of course any rules with errors in the log will not be used by Suricata.  The other fatal error crash message looks like something is crashing the multi-pattern matcher code.

Remember the Snort VRT rules are written for and optimized for Snort.  Suricata is a different competing IDS/IPS product.  Both are open-source projects, but the Suricata team has not added support for all of the same rule options as Snort.  Conversely, Suricata can do a lot of things Snort can't do either.  So the two projects are similar, but also different.  I don't have the names handy off the top of my head, but there are rules vendors out there that specialize in producing Suricata-only rules.

I know about the snort rules on suricata and that was not a problem on suricata 3.2.2, the same rules were ignored and suricata still worked.
The real problem it is the crash that now latest suricata version 4.0.0 cause it.

To bad the previous suricata version has gone from  pfSense repo and we can't go back.
In this case upgrade to suricata latest version was a mistake.

Found this bug report on the Suricata Redmine site:  https://redmine.openinfosecfoundation.org/issues/2251#change-8823.  You can follow the progress there.  The pfSense package uses the Suricata binary from upstream.  The only thing the GUI package really does is just create the suricata.yaml text configuration file and then display some data from logs.  So any issues in the underlying upstream binary will also exist in the pfSense package.
