Tagging posts

Is it possible to allow users to add tags to others posts? Correctly tagged posts makes it easier to find information on a given keyword.
Also would like the tags "firewall" and "pfSense" to be banned. I think we can all agree that 99% of the posts are regarding pfSense and firewall technology, tagging them as such does nobody any favors.

Allowing other users to tag other users post while sounds nice - can open up a can of worms. For example tags of pointless, stupid, etc.. come to mind of tags that other users could add ;)

Yeah, it would be abused if not done properly you can bet on that. Forum moderators could be granted tagging capabilities though.

Hmm I like that proposition. I for my part always try to get users to edit their post as "solved" or "workarounded" or anything to show it succesfully done. So if moderators could apply a "done", "solved", "workaround" tag - or additional things like tagging it as a howto, doc or something, would be quite nice to have. Even delete tags that aren't correct or helpful. :)

I would think mods could already do that?
Not sure letting mods tag something solved or done unless users clearly state that. While it might be clear from say others reading something that the answer is there, etc. But the OP might not be getting it, etc.
While I like the idea of tags.. Unless there is clear cut document giving sort of template and examples of what tags to use it can become pretty useless with just all kinds of freeform tags.
And your one post wonders are never going to tag - shoot most of them can not even get the right section ;)
Tags are really only useful if used consistently, and with presets.. If you could do say drop down listings of what tags to add then yeah can be helpful. But unless its used on all posts/threads then searching on them is very reliable when you search and miss out on some thread that has exactly what you were looking for but was not tagged or mis-tagged.
Thinking that the mods are going to spend time tagging, and then going back and tagging old threads seems a bit over enthusiastic at best..

You're making it way more complicated than it needs to be. If you start requiring documentation etc it'll never happen. Mods are trusted members of the community. I say we let them exercise their discretion.
