I read some place that Snort is single treaded. Is this true for the package in pfSense?

I had read that a while back. I see https://blog.snort.org/2014/12/introducing-snort-30.html says Snort 3.0 has multi-threading? However the snort package for pfSense says:

        Package Dependencies:
        snort-2.9.11.1_2

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

The current Snort package on pfSense is based on the Snort 2.9.11 binary, so it is single-threaded.
