Oy vey, somehow I ended up on the pfsense development branch, and had installed incompatible items, then I thought I could reboot and it would all just "go away". Well, my internet went away for a couple of days until I could delve into the issue. I thank the users that have gone before me, and folks like @BBcan177 @johnpoz who always suggest "backing up". Once I had the time I re-installed and used a recent backup and was back online within a couple of hours.
