Apologies if this is in the wrong place. I am stuck between this board and the package board, however, as the issue seems to be related to the dev builds of pfsense I decided on here.

For some reason, the ntopng service fails to start on the development versions of pfsense.
      Current pfsense version:
      2.4.5-DEVELOPMENT (amd64)
built on Tue Sep 18 20:30:37 EDT 2018
      FreeBSD 11.2-RELEASE-p3

But the issue has been present for several months worth of dev builds. I haven't really had time to ask about it.
I can't seem to find any logs which would explain why the service does not start. Can anyone suggest where to look or what the problem is here?

Well, jeez do I feel stupid.
Removed and Installed as opposed to using the reinstall option seems to have fixed it.

Further to this. Updated to the next snapshot

          2.4.5-DEVELOPMENT (amd64)
built on Wed Sep 19 12:33:40 EDT 2018
          FreeBSD 11.2-RELEASE-p3

It broke again until I completely removed and reinstalled the package. So it seems that the process of updating pfsense breaks something.
