I've reached out to Netgate support, posted on the Redmine ticket (https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/9211) and trying a new post here.

Whomever is responsible for 3rd party package updates has let this languish for three months. PLEASE update the ntopng package to the latest release so that GeoIP features will start working again.

I was just going to post with the same issue. I've just installed Ntopng expecting great things but as you say some features aren't working,

Autonomous Systems only shows AS 0
Hosts by Country shows No results found
Hosts GeoMap shows a blank map

I can only assume these will never work ?

@randombits ntopng has already been fixed some time ago to address these problems, but whoever maintains third party packages for pfSense has let this wither on the vine. I even had an email exchange with the ntopng developer where he said the pfSense people have shown no interest to him either in keeping it updated.

I've been told by Netgate support that the Redmine ticket I posted the link to above is the proper channel, but if course that has gotten zero attention from Netgate since it was posted in December.

Maybe some kind user with paid support can push this issue harder. I fail to understand what the problem is -- it appears it would take the pfSense package managers an hour or two at most to fix this.

That's a shame, I would have thought Netgate and package maintainer/s would have sorted it - I guess the publicity it gets the better

Most packages are developed/maintained by the community and not pfSense: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/book/packages/index.html#introduction-to-packages

If it's that important to you then provide Netgate with a pull request containing the needed changes, this will probably speed things up. Complaining on the forums about a free, community maintained, package will not really do much though.

Free? I paid a substantial amount of money for my Netgate SG-3100. Still perplexed / irked that an expensive appliance came with zero complimentary support, 30 days or something -- but that's another topic.

I'm not asking pfSense folks to fix any issues in ntopng, just to simply pick up the latest version in their package manager! Any pull request against the code would be simply doing that. But I can't make that happen -- only the pfSense package maintainers can.

And as I initially said, I reached out to Netgate support and posted this on Redmine when they pointed me to that, to no avail so far after more than three months.

ntopng may be third party -- but it is my understanding that it is a popular and useful addition to pfSense. I really think at the barest minimum they could respond on Redmine explaining why the upgrade is not forthcoming. Radio silence for three months is not okay.

I only reached out here in an attempt to get the attention of more eyeballs on this issue (especially since I've seen this problem pop up in multiple forum posts over the months). So @Grimson, if it's not obvious, I found your remarks high-handed.

You paid for hardware that is tested and guaranteed to work with current and future pfSense versions, during it's lifetime. The software itself is free.

Everyone can make pull requests: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/development/submitting-a-pull-request-via-github.html

If we're going to be pedantic, hardware support for the device itself also would not be complimentary for any period after purchase.

But not everyone can merge that pull request and build a new package. I don't see how submitting a PR for something as simple as pulling in the latest version of a third party tool would be any different than filing the ticket in Redmine (which is what Netgate support instructed me was the proper thing to do).

Anyway -- I find the debate with you pointless. My only hopes were to make others aware of what was going on with ntopng, and perhaps catch the eye of a package maintainer -- since Redmine doesn't seem to do the trick and Netgate support says they can't help.
