2.5.0 images for SG-3100 and XG-7100
-
Will there be 2.5.0 images for SG-3100 and XG-7100 available soon?
-
You should be able to see snapshots for any device at this point and time.
-
Hmm, maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.
I'm going to:
https://snapshots.pfsense.org/amd64/pfSense_master/installer/
I was looking for something for a filename like
pfSense-netgate-memstick-XG-7100-2.4.4-RELEASE-p2-amd64.img.gz
, but for 2.5.0.Or should I just be using a generic CE (Community Edition) memstick version, and installing that to my XG-7100? Any caveats there?
(Also - this is an aside - there used to be a portal where we could download images for official Netgate hardware. However, apparently that was phased out - would be neat if there was a replacement where we can always go to for the very latest images, instead of raising a support ticket each time to check =) ).

(Apologies, couldn't seem to find a way to edit my post)
Also - is there any way to go from 2.4.5 to 2.5.0 directly via an online update, versus installing via a snapshot on XG-7100?
-
Yes, Please use the online update feature, select the development branch and update from there.

@chrismacmahon said in HEADS UP: Snapshots moving to pfSense 2.5.0 on FreeBSD 12, expect initial instability:

He is on 2.4.5 and apparently unwilling to read blog posts and the upgrade guide.

@chrismacmahon Thanks for helping out! =)
My apologies - I had read the release notes and caveats, but I'd missed a single critical line on the blog post as well:
For anybody else reading - specifically, if you are on 2.4.5 snapshots, you need to run the following the shell to enable 2.5.0:
sed -i '' -e 's/11/12/g; s/armv6/armv7/g; s/hardfp/softfp/g' /usr/local/share/pfSense/pkg/repos/*devel*abi /usr/local/share/pfSense/pkg/repos/*devel*conf
Thanks again! Really excited to try this out =).

Do you have a copy of the stable firmware for the xg-7100 on hand before going down this path?
-
@chrismacmahon Yup - I do! =)
(I had to open a support ticket to request images for both the SG-3100 and XG-7100 units we have).
The update kept failing with size mismatch.
So I had to re-flash my SG-3100 from a factory 2.4.4-p2 image again, and run the update again. The update worked - but then I seem to have hit some issue with Unable to load dynamic library - I've flashed back to 2.4.4-p2, but it was good to try it and I'm happy to try it again in a few days maybe, if that dynamic library error is fixed. (This is a lab environment).
