If I try to run any test on my drive selecting it from drop down menu, I always get "Invalid test type, bailing."
But if run it manually via command prompt, it works without any error message.smartctl -t long /dev/ada0

What version of pfSense are you using?
This was all recently rewritten on pfSense 2.5.0.
