      create the file

      /boot/loader.conf.local

      with

      if_bwi_load="YES"

      take in mind that It supports station and monitor mode operation only
      plus it need firmware, idk if it's included/compiled for pfsense

        I expect it to find and load bwi_v3_ucode.ko from /boot/modules but it may need to be manually set.

        bwi_v3_ucode="YES"

        Check the system log for errors after boot.

        Note that 'supports station and monitor mode operation only' means it does not support hostap mode, it cannot run as an access point.

          Many thanks,
          Didn't realize it would be this difficult... Previously the pciem cards were able to be detected automatically.
          Thanks for help
          I will try the above solutions

            Use an Atheros based card for best support out of the box.
