Hi. I'm trying to create a loopback interface that I can use with FRR OSPF. I have an IP alias enabled on the lo interface but lo is not available for use with FRR OSPF as an interface. I use the loopback interface to set the router ID (best practice per Cisco and MikroTik) to a.b.c.d/32. By redistributing connected networks and filtering routes I can advertise a.b.c.d/32 but I can't set the area. I would really like to stay away from advertising connected networks. Adding passive interfaces and defining areas on said interfaces is the preferable solution. Currently lo is not available to use with FRR.

On MikroTik it is possible to simulate a loopback interface by creating a bridge with no ports. I tried this on pfSense but pfsense will not let you create an empty bridge.

Has anybody been able to overcome the shortcomings of loopback interfaces on pfSense for use with FRR? Thanks.
