nginx balancer (ported from nginx+) vs HAProxy balancer
-
Hi, pfSense balancing gurus!
Recently (in 2017) nginx obtain balancer from nginx+.
Before this time most network Ingeneers build balancing on two solutions: Squid or HAProxy. What is con’s & pro's of each of this three solutions:
- nginx native
- HAProxy
- Squid
for HighLoad situation for mobile application servers with partitioned/virtual sharded databases and a lot of short requests and short-time tcp sessions ?
Thank You for detailed answers!

If you have a high load, then you shouldn't be running any load balancing on the firewall. Forward the traffic to a dedicated device running whatever solution you like.
The specifics about which is best outside of pfSense are not on topic here, though.

Totally agree with You about separate load balancing and FW on separate devices.

Do You have own knowledge or experience about ngnix balancer vs HAProxy balancer ?
