[2.4.5] Can remotely connect (Android) using SS/TLS server mode, not with UserAuth

Been going through all sort of guides to get this setup (first time) but seems no matter what I try, if I try to use the server mode: remote access (SSL/TLS + User Auth), I always just get a User Auth Failed message in the OVPN logs on pfs.

It does work beautifully though if I just switch the server mode over to only use SSL/TLS.
I've used the built-in Auth test tool in pfs and the user account I created works fine. I've run out of ideas at this point. Hoping someone can shed some light here.
