Help with OpenVPN + RDC
-
Hi, I have today watched Lawrence Systems video on setting up OpenVPN for remote access. I am however struggling. I followed the instructions step by step with his video. Exported to the client laptop connected it to my mobile phone to simulate connecting from off network. It says its connected, has a green screen on the OpenVPN icon in the notifications bar but I don't seem to be able to access anything on my network/domain. I'm properly stuck

No Idea about the Lawrence Systems video...but why don't you use official Netgate documentation first?

We need more details about your network. What is your LAN subnet? Post a network map so we can visualize how your network is laid out.
Also, post your server1.conf (/var/etc/openvpn)

Have abandoned this for now. With all the information I am a little overwhelmed. I need to start fresh and just get it to work and be stable before playing I think.

little overwhelmed
As @Rico said : have a look at the 8 minutes OpenVPN server setup example from Netgate (Youtube) video.
Promised, the guy is speaking slowly, and clicks even more slowly.Just try to make it work on your side ones. Do not add or remove steps. You'll see ^^.

@Gertjan thanks, I'll have a look. Can I ask re another topic.
@DrJon said in IP Addressing at / for installation:Hi,
I'm setting my network up again... I wanted to check if my plan would work..
Modem-172.16.0.1
Pfsense 172.16.5.1
Switch 172.16.5.2
Server 172.16.5.3
HTPC 172.16.5.4 -
The short answer is yes. However, the first thing I would do is call your ISP and have them re-configure the modem for bridge mode.

@marvosa I have currently got a bt smart hub with complete wifi discs. The modem/router gives me the option of 192.168.x.x or 172.16.x.x as ip addresses and for 172.16.x.x gives the router up as 172.16.0.1.it has dhcp which has already assigned devices 172.16.x.x addresses. I will be turning the firewall and dhcp off on this and switching it out for a DM200 modem and adding wireless access points. I just want to make sure now before I implement the pfsense into the live network that it will work OK. I am planning but am not 100% sure if I'm planning the right things. I hope so!
I need to get it working and for it to not bugger up the WiFi on our mobiles and other WiFi devices or I'll get it in the neck from the wife if pfsense starts blocking everything ️
