Crashing
-
2.4.5-RELEASE (amd64) Dell Power edge R210ii (EX Riverbed Technology, Steelhead EXA-00560-B020) 16Gb of Ram 120 Gb SSD. Intel quad port nic. Not running as a VM.
No access to the internet or any network services. no way to connect to the box via serial either. Will not recognize keyboard or mouse.
Nothing in the crash directory. Nothing in any of the log to denote something went wrong. No report crash dump link on dashboard.
The only thing I can see is that the indicator lights on my switch and mode show a 10/100 connection instead of 1 Gb.
Is there somewhere else I can look for any information about what went wrong.

Update everything first under Windows (Win7) on Dell R210II, updating the BIOS (Version: 2.10.0, 2.10.0)especially is important!
https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/poweredge-r210-2/driversWith us, 4 such configurations work flawlessly, true with this NIC, only this is the difference: https://www.bargainhardware.co.uk/dell-r519p-bcm5709-quad-port-rj45-1gbps-low-profile-pcie-x4-m005r-nic

and even this is necessary because of the LOM Broadcom bce (4) ethernet controller on the motherboard:https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/hardware/tuning-and-troubleshooting-network-cards.html

Windows 7 is an important parameter, because newer versions are not compatible with this Dell product because of this:
-
BIOS was the first thing I updated. It had an OEM on it. I disabled the onboard NICs. I am using the Intel card. I don't know if I can install win 7 on it, I don't have any keys.
-
I'm looking for a key and passing it in ZIP (and I will delete it later), because everything needs to be updated, not just the BIOS
----ZIP ----------this is location of the ZIP let me know, if necessary and I will refill
Please let me know, if you downloaded it...
-
BTW, what is the type of intel?
It's worth a try, remove the Intel NIC and enable only the Broadcom LOM (5716):
https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=bce&sektion=4on pfSense this Intel driver works well, https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?igb(4)
ethernet controller:
I350 / I340 / I210-AT / I211 -
@DaddyGo
i don't see a link to any files, just dashes. and the word ZIP and a smile emoji. -
Intel pro 1000 is all it list in dmsg.
-
yes, because I posted the link and you left the forum....
I know Win7 is no longer supported and is not an important OP system, but I didn't want everyone to download this key.I intended it only for you to help
I will reupload when you are online again
(then I pay attention to your activity) -
Found this https://www.reddit.com/r/PFSENSE/comments/frac4z/245_and_intel_pro1000_vt_quad_not_friends_anymore/
I have switched over to the built in nics (bce) and a fresh load to see if that makes a difference.

Now you are here?

-
Regardless, what I wrote is valid!
These are the Dell hardware FW upgrades under Win7 that need to be done, intel.inf, etc -
@DaddyGo Yes very valid!

@DaddyGo got it thanks a million
-
You welcome
if the FWs are out of date, FreeBSD cannot handle them
-
when you are done with the task, I will be at your disposal if you have any questions

Got everything I could update taken care of. The lifecycle controller would not run on win7pro. The intel card would not update, not support on that model. No update for the sata controller. BIOS has the latest update. On board NICs updated (going to disable them asap, they use a lot of cpu, suricata running). How do I switch the drivers from igb to em)? I am also open to any tips also.
Thanks
