I've configured a pfsense in AWS
      WAN: 172.27.10.5
      LAN: 172.27.13.5
      OpenVPN tunnel network: 172.31.0.0/24
      Local network (vpc): 172.27.0.0/16

The WAN and LAN interfaces on the pfsense are able to get to all of the servers in the VPC with no problem.

Pings from the configured OVPN network apparently don't even leave the pfsense. Traffic monitoring at various destinations doesn't show anything arriving from 172.31.0.0/24

The pfsense firewall is configured to allow all traffic on the LAN and the OVPN
Security groups in the VPC are set to allow ICMP from any and there is no IPTables in the way.

We even set up a temporary server in the same network as the pfsense LAN interface and observed this behavior.

Has anyone got any ideas? I'm completely baffled at this point.
