      Hi all,

      My ISP requires that we connect on the WAN via single-mode 1g SFP. So I have bought a couple of transcievers and hooked it up to a VLAN on my Unifi switch to simulate the WAN interface. All seems to be OK, apart from the link was initially dropping often, and I get the following status in PFSense:

      : ifconfig -vvm ix0
      ix0: flags=8943<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,PROMISC,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500
      	options=e400bb<RXCSUM,TXCSUM,VLAN_MTU,VLAN_HWTAGGING,JUMBO_MTU,VLAN_HWCSUM,VLAN_HWTSO,RXCSUM_IPV6,TXCSUM_IPV6>
      	capabilities=f507bb<RXCSUM,TXCSUM,VLAN_MTU,VLAN_HWTAGGING,JUMBO_MTU,VLAN_HWCSUM,TSO4,TSO6,LRO,VLAN_HWFILTER,VLAN_HWTSO,NETMAP,RXCSUM_IPV6,TXCSUM_IPV6>
      	ether 00:08:a2:xx:xx:xx
      	hwaddr 00:08:a2:xx:xx:xx
      	inet6 fe80::208:a2ff:fe0e:b3a5%ix0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1
      	inet 147.80.80.6 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 147.80.80.255
      	nd6 options=23<PERFORMNUD,ACCEPT_RTADV,AUTO_LINKLOCAL>
      	media: Ethernet autoselect (Unknown <rxpause,txpause>)
      	status: active
      	supported media:
      		media autoselect
      	plugged: SFP/SFP+/SFP28 1000BASE-LX (LC)
      	vendor: FLYPRO PN: SFP-1G-31-10 SN: 201211FI0023 DATE: 2020-12-11

      That doesn't seem right to me, I heard I might need to force 1000Base-LX mode, but that isn't a supported option. The connection DOES work, but I don't know if it will be reliable for WAN in a Rack.

      The Transceiver was a 'compatable' Finisar FTLF1318P3BTL as mentioned in the Manual.

      Many Thanks,
      Steve.

        That is quite common on the XG-7100 SFP ports and not normally any sort of issue.

        It's unable to read the link speed/type from the module but it is linked and it is seeing the module correctly.

          @stephenw10 That's good to know, thanks. I've got some new modules arriving tomorrow so I can try them too. So this won't cause any stability problems? I suspect the previous link flapping was due to the Unifi switch STP kicking in, as I had one of the ETH ports connected too. It seems to be holding stable now anyway.

            I would not expect that to cause any problem. I've seen it numerous time on XG-7100s that were working just fine.
