Adding a second WiFi to my network using qotom onboard WiFi
-
I am running pfsense on a qotom with builtin wireless. This’s was an upgrade from an older pc I was running pfsense on. My WiFi works fine as is. But I want to use the wireless in the qotom also with a different 3rd octet but still access my wan (internet). I have tried several different settings. I can get devices to connect to the WiFi but not get to the net. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just some background I have a switch that has my network with an access point connected to it. It works fine. I am wanting to set up a secondary WiFi for certain wireless devices in my house. I will be adding a couple of more switches which I also hope to have the 3rd octet different to steerage my video, entertainment (computers and consoles), and cctv on different isolated networks but use the same WiFi. My qotom is 4 ports eth0 is my wan
Thanks.

AFAIK , it is not recommended to run "WiFi AP" directly on the pfSense.
While possible, it seems that there can be issues ,with the freebsd AP implementation. It would be preferable to get a "cheap external wifi unit"

To use the built in wifi for access point, it needs to be in access point mode, which afaik isn't supported/doesn't work.
Doing it with an external ap connected to a lan port is a far far better solution overall. -
If you've added the interface and clients can connect to it then check they are getting an IP address from dhcp correctly. If they are then you are probably missing a firewall rule or possibly an outbound NAT rule if it not in automatic mode.
