"Service" Restart Button, Auto Restart (WireGuard)
-
Hi,
Just a thought / question, but ... while WireGuard is not a service (and not wanting to confuse that), restarting it by going to the interface config and hitting save ... well, it's not real intuitive, and a bit of a pain. Would it make sense to have a restart button on the main page, with the services (to do the same thing)? There could even be a dashed line (or something like that) to separate it from "real" services? Again, just a thought.
Also related - as WG needs to be restarted after any firewall / rules changes ... why not make it automatic (or at least have the option to make it automatic).
Not huge issues, just thinking out loud.
Thanks!

It shouldn't be necessary to do that, so it seems like a bad idea to encourage it by giving users a button to do it more easily.
It's not a service so it won't be added to services, it's just not how WireGuard operates and it would mainly confuse users who are already not familiar with how it operates.
WireGuard does not need to be restarted after making changes to rules. If it does, you're doing something else wrong.

NP! Was just a thought, as I said - not a biggie .

OK, that's good to know! Other folks were saying that this needed to be done. If not, it's much less pain .
Thanks!

In some of the very first builds which included WireGuard it was necessary to re-save once after assigning an interface, but that was solved fairly early on.

@jimp Excellent - appreciate the info!

@jimp FYI, just updated to 2.5.0-RC, and on reboot ... WG is not up and running properly . Had to Save the settings, to get it working again. Just a heads up for you.
Thanks!

I haven't seen that happen here yet. I have done quite a lot of reboots while testing as development went on to ensure settings and routes were applied at boot time and I haven't seen issues like that in quite a while.
Going to need a lot more information than "it doesn't work".

Completely understand ... LOL! Just wanted to mention it, to see if you had also observed the same thing. I'll try to check routes, etc. the next time I reboot, get that info to you (unfortunately, can't reboot right now).
Thanks!
