So I posted a fair few months ago here (https://forum.netgate.com/topic/158622/slow-local-haproxy-performance-on-proxmox-vm)

That explains the problem I had, but basically after virtualizing pfsense on proxmox I immediately saw a significant decrease in download speed from my server over HTTPS.

I recently learned about AES-NI and discovered following netgate's guide for installation (https://pfsense-docs.readthedocs.io/en/latest/virtualization/virtualizing-pfsense-with-proxmox.html)
fails to enable this as a CPU flag this leads to poor HTTPS performance. After enabling the AES CPU flag and rebooting I immediately saw a huge improvement in speed (back to gigabit).

I believe this guide needs to say to enable this flag to optimise performance as surely I'm not the only one.

On the Netgate site https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/recipes/virtualize-proxmox.html there is a Give Feedback link at the top

Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to reboot, or more depending on packages, and device or disk speed.
