Super Newb.... packages won't load
-
Trying to load "CRON" and "SNORT". Neither one will do it. I get a message "Please wait for blah, blah, blah to update"...and nothing happens...ever.
-
@redliner actually says:
Please wait while the update system initializes
and the programs never load..........

What version (and type) of pfSense are you running? Is it 2.4.5, or 2.5.0 CE or 21.02_p1 pfSense+?
Are you attempting to install or update packages while still on a version of pfSense older than 2.5.0 (or 21.02, if using a Netgate appliance)?
To install packages on older pfSense versions, you must reset your packages repo to point to the now deprecated 2.4.5 pfSense version. You do that under SYSTEM > UPDATE > UPDATE SETTINGS.
If your hardware is an SG-3100, then don't install Snort as it is currently broken on that hardware. So is Suricata.

@bmeeks thanks! Mine is the 1100. I just bought it a week ago. I'll see what version pfsense it is...... I'll be back.

2.4.5-RELEASE-p1 (arm64)

@redliner said in Super Newb.... packages won't load:
2.4.5-RELEASE-p1 (arm64)
You have two choices. One is to update to the latest pfSense+ version for the your SG-1100, which is 21.02_1. Then packages will install.
Your other option, if you do not want to upgrade, is to go to SYSTEM > UPDATE > UPDATE SETTINGS and change the version to "Previous stable version (2.4.5 deprecated)", save that change, and then try installing/updating packages.
The packages repo always, by default, points to the current version of packages compiled for the current version of pfSense. You can't install these newer OS version packages on older pfSense versions without swapping the repo pointer appropriately.

@bmeeks I just finished updating to 21.02_1 so maybe I'll be in business now! I saw the option of the Deprecated 2.4.5_1 but my thinking was "let's go with the latest reliable version"....
