WMP300N
-
Hello,
I'm curious if anyone has had any luck getting a WMP300N working. I picked one up on the cheap on ebay and thought it would be a nice addition to my pfsense box. Plugged it in and there doesn't seem to be any native support for it, at least it's not recognized.
I'm currently running 1.2.3-RC1. Any assistance is appreciated.

Is this a "wireless N" NIC? FreeBSD (and hence pfSense) doesn't yet support any wireless N devices.

Yes it is, I'm not sure how I missed this tidbit of information!! I had done some searching prior to purchase and I thought I had read in a few instances of people getting them to function. I guess I missed that!! Any idea on when support will be available?

I'm even further confused after investigating this further. This is from the FreeBSD site…..
Wireless: FreeBSD 7.0 ships with significantly enhanced wireless support, including high-power Atheros-based cards, new drivers for Ralink, Intel, and ZyDAS cards, WPA, background scanning and roaming, and 802.11n.

Apparently FreeBSD has some "generic" 802.11n support but doesn't yet have any device drivers for 802.11n devices.
See http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,14253.msg75550/topicseen.html#msg75550 and http://www.mail-archive.com/freebsd-net@freebsd.org/msg30294.html The latter post suggests that at least one Atheros 802.11n chipset can be made to work in 802.11g "compatibility mode" but not "full 802.11n" mode. Depending on what you want to do, this may or may not qualify as "802.11n". The latter post discusses "FreeBSD current"; I don't know if the discussed support is in any pfSense build.
