Creating rulles

I have set up pfsense on ESXi 5.4 on Mac Pro. It is running fine. The Mac Pro has two interface adapters. Within VMware, I have assigned 2 nic to PFsense. vmx0 is the WAN adapter and vmx1 is the LAN adapter.
The WAN address is 10.10.233.2 (VLAN 1/defualt VLAN) and the LAN address is 10.10.172.3. The IPs are close to what I am using, I am using this as an internal Application firewall.
I have a web server that has SQL on it, and I have created firewall rules in bound port 80. i am seeing denied in the logs? does any have can recommend a good configuration video
