Hi, we have a Netgate SG-2100 with crypto hardware acceleration enabled and the pfSense version is 21.05.

We have 9 users connected over VPN. The issue manifests when a user establish a connection to the OpenVPN server. All the other users then experience latency (1 to 3 seconds) until the initialization sequence is completed. Then it gets back to normal.

I've set-up a second OpenVPN server with less encryption (first server have a digest with SHA512 with strong encryption algorithms) and I've tested that second server with two users. Both servers are on the Netgate device.

The test shows that the latency still appear, but only for the users that are connected to the server that receive a new connection.

So this lead to a situation where latency occurs for all users connected to one server, but not for the users connected on another server, on the same device.

      What can it be ?

I gloomily came to the ironic conclusion that if you take a highly intelligent person and give them the best possible, elite education, then you will most likely wind up with an academic who is completely impervious to reality.
