      Hello All!

      I have PfSense running great at home. I want to configure another for my kids but cannot solve how to bypass all firewall rules to set things up on the second PfSense box.
      This is how I hoped to do it:
      Main PfSense WAN = DHCP
      Main PfSense LAN = static ip / 192.168.10.1 /24

      Second Pfsense WAN = DHCP ( listed as 192.168.10.50 on primary PfSense)

      Second PfSense LAN = 192.168.107.1/24

      On the MAIN Pfsense, I created a rule in the firewall placing it on top of all other rules:

      Protocol = TCP/UDP
      Source = 192.168.107.1 (is WAN on sencond PfSense)
      Port = any
      Destination = any

      I cannot go anywhere.

      Can someone explain what I'm doing wrong?

      All I need is a bypass around my PfSense box to configure everything on the sencond one.

      Thanks for any assistance

        Hi,

        I apologise in advance... 😉 - (@detox "I want to configure another for my kids ------Second Pfsense" ...?????)

        Yes, because it is unnecessary, based on your description, you could install a firewall in each room(s)...or place(s)...

        I will help you, and tell you that ONE pfSense is enough for your home, say with a well-separated network for you and the kids....

        use VLANs or physically separate networks (NIC with more eth. ports) for this purpose, or simply use firewall rules toward your children's computers

        +++++edit:

        Not to mention the double NAT problem, and all this in-house......(?)

          I'm with @daddygo here - why would you want more than just the 1 pfsense with different vlans for your different uses?

          But if you are going to setup downstream pfsense, you are adding another layer of nat which is not wanted.. Or you would have to setup transit networks between your upstream pfsense, and any downstream pfsense. And then disable nat on the downstream, etc.

          Its way less complicated to just use 1 pfsense, and then add other networks/vlans for what you want to isolate/firewall between. Like your kids stuff.

            Yeah, this is always a difficult question, the "son of man" (so we too), always wants the best for the our kids.....

              @daddygo I apologize for my poor communication skills.......

              I want to configure a PfSense appliance for my kids who reside across town. The " Second PfSense" box, once configured will be relocated to my kids home.

              What I need to do is be able to configure and test it before I deliver it.

                There is nothing to do but plug it in. It would work out of the box.. As long as its wan and lan networks do not overlap. Since it would be natting.

                To configure this 2nd pfsense - access the gui from its lan side 192.168.107/24 network.

                Create a rule on its wan to allow gui access from your network, you will have to disable the default block rfc1918 rule on the wan. Since you will be coming from a rfc1918 network.
