I would like to expand the main drive in my pfsense VM, in proxmox i have already given it more space but pfsense has not grabbed the larger area even though the console shows that it did something in gpart, any ideas?

@gertjan I did that and I did not work pfsense would not grab it even when the partition was expanded, gpart grabbed it and expanded the main partition but it would not expand on pfsense

The best way is to reinstall.

If it's UFS, you can touch /root/force_growfs and reboot.

If it's ZFS you might be able to set autoexpand to on for the pool and restart, I can't recall 100% what the right procedure is there.

Personally I'd reinstall, recover config.xml, and be back up and running in minutes without any question about what will happen.
