Traffic shaper in Proxmox?
-
Hi everyone.
Presently my router is running on a fairly old laptop and it is OK. It is an E4310 with 4GB memory an i5 540 M and a gigabit intel nic. I use the most basic switch that supports Vlans so can get away with a single nic on the router. Now I want to virtualise it.
So I will have a machine with a few VMs/Containers running for various purposes: Truenas, lancache, pfsense, pihole, windows and a few others.
My OS of choice is proxmox, as it is free. The machine supports hardware passthrough.I have an intel quad nic. I want to pass through 2 of them for a WAN and the first LAN (this LAN going to a gigabit switch)
The second LAN will be a bridge to a 2.5 gigabit nic, directly connected to my main PC (with a 2.5 Gb nic in it obviously. All the Vms/containers will be attached to the bridge.
The purpose is to have 2.5 gigabit speeds to/from them.I want to use the traffic shaper amongst other things.
My concern is if pfsense does not have direct hardware control to one of the LANS, how will that cause issues with performance.I am using equipment I have already, so are not interested in purchasing an expensive equipment, netscape or otherwise. It is for a home project.
So the WAN & LAN no 1 are both hardware passthrough. The second LAN is NOT.
Will the traffic shaper work as expected?
Useful into appreciated
Thanks
