Windows 10 Client Not Obtaining IP in TAP Mode
-
My macOS devices are getting IP's without a problem at all. Unfortunately, my Windows 10 laptop won't get an IP address. It connects to my server, but I can't access the internet.
Are there any special configurations that need to be made to the Windows TAP drivers? My macOS devices get both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.

Also, how can I install a second OpenVPN profile in Windows 10? It's bundled with the installer, and when I install with just the config files, it gives me an error message (probably due to certificates).

I remember a few years ago I had a similar problem. The solution was to go straight to OpenVPN and download the latest installer and then export the config from pfSense and install it. This has only happened to me once when the version of Win 10 was too new for the pfSense installer bundled in the OpenVPN export package.
If you are using OpenVPN export package check to see if there is an update. That could fix the issue.
If you are getting an error when trying to reinstall OpenVPN make sure you "Run as Administrator". It also may help to remove OpenVPN and then navigate to C:\Program Files\OpenVPN. Delete everything in that OpenVPN folder as when you uninstall it will leave the config files behind. Better yet, delete the OpenVPN folder in Program Files after you uninstall.
Whenever you want to install another config (new user or differnet pfSense appliance entirely) when you run the installer it will only install IF it's a newer version. After it installs or doesn't install (because you have a newer version of OpenVPN client) it will launch another installer that just installs the config you need.
You may not realize it but using the OpenVPN export to get the installer it's a two part process. It first installs OpenVPN and then it runs an install for the config.

When exporting the config, do I use the archive or inline config file?
So you're similar problem was not getting an IP address/accessing the net when you connected via tap or was it installing multiple OpenVPN connections?

Inline config. Yes, the problem was not getting an IP address. I wasn't using multiple connections. I think I may have gotten the dreaded 169 IP address but I knew that wasn't right.

I'll try updating the OpenVPN client. I saw the new v3. It looks like a Windows version of the iOS client and seems feature limited. Not sure if anyone here has used it before. Maybe it's just the GUI is nicer looking and the "innerds" are still high-tech. :)
