OpenVPN connection unable to ping the LAN
-
Hi,
I have successfully create an OpenVPN server and can connect remotely without any issues. From there however, I cannot ping any devices on the LAN.
I have checked (among many other things) that the OpenVPN rule is any/any, not sure where to look next.
Any help would be greatly appreciated ;o)

@beno44
Possibly the LAN devices block the access from the VPN. Check their firewalls. -
Tks @viragomann.
All devices cannot be pinged, not just one device unfortunately.

What about the pfsense LAN interface? Have you tried packet captures to see how far the pings get?
As for the cause, your choices are routing and rules.

@beno44
While you take a capture on the LAN, try to ping a machine using pfSense Diagnostic > Ping. Ping with the default source, then change the source to OpenVPN and try again.
What do you get? What shows the capture? -
@viragomann I've already done that. Can ping from the LAN but not OpenVPN. I'll run the capture shortly

@beno44 Got it finally sorted. Looks like everything I was pinging was windows based machine and it looks like they are now refusing pings from a different subnet. In a nutshell, the issue wasn't with OpenVPN but with the Windows machine. Should have spent more checking the fix you suggested... Tks for your input, very appreciated ;o)

Interesting read thanks
Can you mark it as solved

@noplan doesn't look like I'm able to mark it as solved :(
