MAXMIND - migration to new GeoIP list.. what would it mean to pfSense?
-
Hi,
I've received an e-mail from MAXMIND with following statementOur legacy GeoIP databases will be retired in May 2022
We’re retiring our GeoIP Legacy databases at the end of May 2022 so that we can spend more of our time and resources on our GeoIP2 offerings. This will also help us to avoid running into the limitations of the legacy format (which would prevent us from increasing the number of records in the database past a certain point).What does it actually mean for the pfSence, pfBlockerNG?
Have anyone already investigated this topic?
Thanks

Probably some re coding.
The real question : what does it mean for us ?
As said on the account page : "You're using our free data."
They propose a the solution : "Upgrade to GeoIP2 for more accurate data."You noticed that the word 'free' disappeared.

@gertjan
ok, this means we should see some changes in pfBlockerNG, where GeoIP2 is going to be added, right? -
If there is a demand for it, well, yeah, I guess so.
