Why NanoBSD for 1.2.X?
-
Hi
I stopped by Costco this evening and they coincidentally had a sale on 4GB CF cards. I was pleasantly surprised to see the pfSense-1.2.3-4g-20090721-2324-nanobsd.img.gz snapshot appear when I got home. This was my first migration from embedded to nanobsd, so I copied my /cf contents to the "/cf" slice of the new system. Everything worked. In theory, I can now test an upgrade when a newer snapshot comes out.
But then I got to thinking. Once 1.2.3 is "ready", there will be no more updates to 1.2.X, right? So the last upgrade will be from the last snapshot to the final 1.2.3. It's not like the upgrade will work for people running 1.2.2. I understand from a testing standpoint that testing upgrades on the stable branch is preferable, but after 1.2.3 final, no more upgrades. It's kind of anti-climactic… :(
Oh, and have ssh host keys always been in the conf directory?
Thanks

There likely won't be any 1.2.x releases post-1.2.3. The reason for going ahead with the switch is so you can upgrade to 2.0 without reflashing once that time comes.

Yes.
