i have been using pfsense with openvpn for almost three years, and it has worked well.

      i am using a 7100 1u appliance.

recently, not sure which update, when i reboot/update the system, the openvpn tunnels i have set up do not work. they need to be restarted. no changes, just hit the restart button for any one of the tunnels and they all (three) come back up. any ideas?

2nd issue; i have 8 openvpn tunnels set up to various states and countries, and i use whichever one i need at the time. for the ones i dont need, i have been disabling that client using the radio button under VPN/OpenVPN/Clients/Edit.

however, under this last update to 22.01 (or perhaps the one before, hard to tell since i haven't changed anything in a while) it no longer lets be disable the individual clients, rather it says "Cannot disable an OpenVPN instance while the interface is assigned. Remove the interface assignment first."

i can sorta see why they would have it set this way, but its a pain for me since we use various countries for various things, and dont need them all up at once. [edit; i use a gateway group with the lot of them for the same tier on the gateway, then when i turn one on it automatically works for that vlan its attached to. that way i can turn an additional one on, and another off, and it still connects through that gateway without any other intervention).

any ideas? did they just change the operation of the software and thats the way its going to be?
any thoughts on how do keep the config there yet disable the individual tunnels on an as needed basis?

thanks for any help on these items.
