Record IPv4 and IPv6 Data Usage per Host per Month
-
What is the easiest way to record IPv4 and IPv6 data usage per host per month in pfsense? I am running on a HP 730t with plenty of storage space. If possible, I would prefer to find a way of doing this locally on the pfsense box instead of setting up another server. I only plan on running this for a few months to get a good idea why I'm consistently going over the Xfinity data cap. Thanks in advance.

Hey everyone. Just thought I would check again to see if anyone had some input or suggestions for my question above. Thanks!

Try using “System -> Package manager and install BandwidthD or Darkstat. They do summaries like the ones you are looking for.

@keyser As far as I'm aware, BandwidthD and Darkstat don't listen on multiple interfaces.
ntopng is is not recommended for systems that have low CPU or RAM.
softflowd is not working, at least on my system.. -
@keyser thanks. I was thinking bandwidthd couldn’t track ipv6. I’m not sure about darkstat either. I thought I had looked at both of those options but maybe I missed something. Maybe I should just disable ipv6 for a month or two in order to get the per device total monthly data usage by device.

@mcury thanks. I just have one interface so I’m good as long as they can do ipv6 and ipv4 for total data usage per device per month.

Thanks again everyone. I ended up going with BandwidthD and disabling IPv6 in pfSense. I think this will work for the next month or so to figure out where the data is going each month. I suspect it's the two Apple TV 4K that we have but time will tell. I don't recalling use this much data when we used the Roku devices.
