      Hi,

I have just installed pfBlockerNG-devel and hm. Even if not yet enabled, it for sure had an effect on my connectivity. I had to reboot the appliance??

A little unsettling, but seems to work fine now. Is there any log that could give a clue of what led to the disconnect?

Also, running the wizard now, Inbound interface is no issue, but outbound... Should I select all my lans here?? All examples usually talk of one inbound and one outbound... Please help, thanks

@furom Use the Services Status Widget at the dashboard. There you can easily spot that unbound was stopped. This has become normal with pfBlocker installations and upgrades. 😉

Hi, and thanks for replying. Then this will happen again when upgrading :( I use pfSense for DNS and without it, not much else works... So the checking you suggested would not work in that state. I guess a hard power toggle is the new normal then, not too happy about that. Why stopping unbound, and not restarting it?

Using pfBlockerNG to filter on the lan side is generally recommended as a lot of the internet noise is filtered by pfsense NAT & default firewall. What you actually should do will depend on what you are trying to do.

huh - I sure hope your not saying pulling the plug on power of pfsense device?

If you can not access pfsense to restart the service via fqdn, just use the IP.. Start the service and there you go back in business.

@patch Yes, I understand. My goal for now is to do some initial geo/ad-blocking. I will check out the links, thanks :)

Well, pulling the power plug was my alternative this time - knowing how horribly bad idea that really is. Though IP would probably work, but is too boring to jot in a really long random password. Guess it's the correct way, still a little bummed about unbound just stopping tho...

Would the console let me restart, I bet it should, right?

Btw you probably should also look in the Netgate pfBlockerNG sub forum
The Netgate installation sub forum is mostly for installing pfsense.

huh? Ya lost me there - what does the password have to do with anything? My pfsense is long and complex password sure. But its saved in my password manager, the password manager can be set to understand use this password for either pfsense.domain.tld or 192.168.1.1, etc. Or you can just go into the password manger and look up pfsense.domain.tld and copy the password.
